A day exploring downtown Chicago and the Navy Pier

Traveling for my son’s hockey takes us all over the country. We usually don’t have the luxury of exploring the city that we’re in due to a busy schedule, but this trip (our third to Chicago) we finally got to head downtown.

Navy Pier

It was a beautiful fall day. We started at the Navy Pier. We walked around for hours. There are shops, restaurants, and lots of stuff to do. We stopped into Margaritaville and looked in the gift shop, but the kids didn’t want to eat there this time.

We went to Harry Caray’s Tavern to eat. The restaurant is a fun, family-friendly sports themed restaurant. My kids, both sports fans, loved it.  My son, also with a small addiction to burgers loved their burgers. We actually all got the burgers and they were fantastic.  They have a full menu with lots of options, non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.

After lunch, we took a boat to the city and walked over to Millennium Park. The boat ride took about 15 minutes and was inexpensive.  It gave us a chance to see the city from a different view.

We got off on the stop for the park. It was about another 10-minute walk to the park. We stopped at a few of the shops on the way, including the Blackhawks store. It’s a huge two-story store with a ton of merchandise…and some fun photo ops.

Millenium Park

Millenium Park was fun and busy. My kids really wanted to see the Giant Bean.

The kids had lots of fun. Wel played around in the park for a while.

We had a great day exploring the city. We didn’t get to all of it, but we touched on the highlights. What we loved about the city was that it was walker friendly, clean and had lots to see and do.
